Ruby Magnifiers: Perfect magnification tools for any occasion

There are now countless tools and technologies available for people who are visually impaired. It is nearly impossible to keep track of them all. Luckily, Optelec will make it easier to navigate all the products that are available with a Product Demonstration and Advice Day on 23rd May in Henley on Thames.

There will be many amazing products on display, among which is the ‘Ruby’ magnifier series that can make reading a wide variety of texts more accessible.

Ruby HD

The Ruby HD is the smallest and most portable of the Ruby magnifiers. With a battery life of 2 hours, a 4.3’’screen, and a handle, this magnifier is perfect for use on the go. The magnifier has easy to use buttons to zoom in and out, change the screen contrast, and to take a photo. It has a 2x to 13x zoom, making it a very versatile magnification option.

Ruby XL

Much like the Ruby HD, the Ruby XL is perfect for use on the go. It also includes a flip-out handle, as well as tactile, easy to use buttons. The Ruby XL differs, however, in its size (the Ruby XL has a 5’’ screen), and it also includes a more in-depth set of features. It has a 2x to 14x zoom, a choice between 20 high contrast screen colours, as well as a tool that lets you keep your place while reading.

The Ruby XL is great for dual use both at home and on the go. It is very compact and portable, and its extensive reading features make it very useful for reading things such as books and magazines at home.

Ruby 7 HD

While it is also very portable, the Ruby 7 is more suitable for stationary use. It features a 7’’ screen as well as a stand, making it a great tool for reading books, newspapers, and magazines.

The Ruby 7 HD also features, tactile easy to use buttons, 20 different screen colours, and a camera. What makes it a better fit for stationary, at-home use use is a more powerful zoom, larger memory, a Pivot Cam for self-viewing (that can be used for applying makeup or shaving), as well as an HDMI output to connect the magnifier to a TV.

Ruby 10 HD / Speech

The Ruby 10 is the biggest and most powerful magnifier from the ‘Ruby’ series with a 10’’ screen and three dedicated cameras.

The 2x to 24x zoom is perfect for reading anything from letters and magazines to menu boards. The magnifier includes a swing-out arm as well as a stand that makes it very functional on the go but its size, in depth features, and text to speech capabilities make it more suitable for at-home use.

To give you a better sense of what the different levels of magnification actually look like we’ve included some examples below:

There are three photos of a clock on the wall in 1x zoom, 4x zoom, and 8x zoom. In the 1x zoom photo the clock only covers a small part of the frame and the rest of it is a blank wall. In the 4x zoom photo the clock covers about half the frame. In the 8x zoom photo the clock covers the whole frame and the outer edges are cut-off.
There are 2 images of a clock at 14x zoom and 20x zoom. In the 14x zoom image you can only see the central part of the clock; the '12' and '1' are the only fully visible numbers. You can see about half of the hands. In the 20x zoom image the only fully visible number is the 12 and you can only see the very central parts of the hands.
