Counselling

Being told that you have a visual impairment can be devastating.

Losing your sight is a very real bereavement. We run a face-to-face and telephone counselling service to help people come to terms with their situation. Find out more below, or to book an appointment please call us on 01865 725 595.

Who is the counselling service for?
Our counselling service is available to anyone experiencing low mood when dealing with sight related difficulties. We also recognise that anxiety can be experienced by parents, partners, carers, and we extend our services to anyone affected directly or indirectly, by sight loss.

How many sessions will I have?
At our first meeting we will plan the number of sessions that might suit you, this will be dependent on your issues of concern and your needs. There will be regular reviews to check that you are happy with the process. Our clients can end the sessions at any time. We recommend that each client has one session per week and each contact can be up to one hour. Some people prefer less, but 60 minutes usually goes by very quickly!

What will happen in my session?
The counselling session offers you a safe and confidential space to talk with trained counsellors about any issues that are causing you concern. Each client has a completely private and confidential opportunity to discuss sensitive issues of concern with the same counsellor for all sessions.

How can I receive counselling sessions?
If you are interested in receiving support from our counselling service, please get in touch by giving us a call or an email, and we will then put you in touch with a counsellor. They will contact you by phone for an introductory conversation. You can then choose to have face-to-face sessions at Bradbury Lodge or weekly contact by phone.

Our counsellors have a personal experience of vision impairment and are sensitive to the concerns, difficulties, and trauma associated with sight loss. All our counsellors are fully trained and generously volunteer their time to offer these sessions.

Please get in touch today if you would like to book your initial session.

MyVision’s counsellor has helped me to get things in perspective, and to cope more effectively with what is going on. I am very grateful to her and thankful that MyVision continues to provide such a valuable service.
