World Sight Day 2025: #LoveYourEyes

This World Sight Day 2025, the global theme is ‘Love Your Eyes’. At MyVision, we know this message holds a deep and personal meaning for everyone in the sight loss community. While the world often focuses on preventing sight loss, it’s just as important to cherish and care for the vision we have, making our eyes as comfortable and healthy as possible.

World Sight Day 2025 – #LoveYourEyes

Here are a few simple ways we can all ‘Love Our Eyes’, inspired by some of the everyday practices of people with real lived experience of sight loss.

Taking a Break from Screens: The 20-20-20 Rule

Many of us rely on screens for work, connection, and entertainment. This can be tiring for your eyes, especially when using magnification or high-contrast settings. A great way to manage this fatigue is the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, try to look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

This can be a challenge in some environments, but even a small effort makes a big difference. In general, taking a ‘vision break’ by closing your eyes or having a much-needed nap works wonders to relieve strain and give your eyes a chance to rest.

Soothing Tired Eyes

After a long day, whether you’ve been working or simply out and about, your eyes can feel dry or tired. A warm compress can be a truly soothing ritual. By applying a gentle, warm compress over your closed eyelids, you can help to stimulate tear production and relax the muscles around your eyes. It’s a small, comforting act of self-care that can make a huge impact on how your eyes feel.

Protecting Your Sight

Protecting your eyes from strong light is crucial for both comfort and health. Wearing a cap or shady sun hat is a simple and effective way to shield your eyes from direct sunlight and harsh glare. A good quality pair of sunglasses that offer UV protection is also a fantastic investment. Protecting your eyes from the sun’s rays is a vital part of looking after them for the long term.

Nourishing Your Vision

What we eat can have a huge effect on our overall eye health. Fuelling your body with the right nutrients is a brilliant way to support your vision. Foods like leafy greens, such as spinach and kale, and dark berries, like blueberries and blackberries, are packed with vitamins and antioxidants that help maintain eye health. It’s a delicious and simple way to care for your eyes every day.
