Building Confidence, Step by Step:

Robert’s story of regaining independence after sight loss

At first, Robert found sight loss hard to accept; his confidence fell and he stopped going out. But in 2024, his opticians introduced him to MyVision Oxfordshire, and everything began to change. Robert’s vision deteriorated significantly in 2021, and continues to deteriorate. Through our Green Walks group in Didcot, Robert met others living with sight loss for the very first time. With the encouragement of our Community Engagement Officer, he began to explore new routes and enjoy sensory walks with others.

Robert also received technology support. Our Technology Officer showed him how to use Meta glasses, and set up accessibility features on his MacBook and phone – such as magnification, Siri voice commands, and audio description.

The team has been helpful and friendly, and has been able to help answer my questions and help me solve problems. – Robert

These changes have made a huge difference. Robert has regained confidence to use public transport, walk during the day, and most importantly, he has rediscovered his independence.

Your Gift Will Go Further This Winter

At MyVision Oxfordshire, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live with confidence and independence – no matter where they are on their sight loss journey. With your help, we can continue providing life-changing support like the Green Walks and technology training accessed by Robert.

This winter, your donation can have twice the impact.

Your donation today will help us continue to support visually impaired people across Oxfordshire. Thanks to our generous match fund*, the first £5,000 we raise will be doubled. That means any donation you make today will have double the impact.

  • A £10 donation could become £20 and help fund a befriending partnership for those most isolated.
  • A £25 donation could become £50 and support a technology training session to increase confidence getting online.
  • A £50 donation could become £100 and provide Green Walk sessions, increasing wellbeing and personal confidence.

Thank you for standing with people living with sight loss this winter. Your support makes independence possible.
